I truly believe that each of us needs to take responsibility for our own happiness, something I discuss further in Tips for Happiness. And because of that, I used my experience to dive head first into self help resources – which was a huge help in turning my life around. So without further ado, below are my favorite personal development books!

Personal Development Books For Purpose, Passion & Loving Yourself

The truth is, you aren’t unworthy. You aren’t a bad person. And you aren’t a mistake. What you really need is to understand is just how truly wonderful, and unique you are. You see, that’s one of the things that helped me to turn my life around. I was walking around completely missing the fact that I was awesome. Okay, that sounds kind of self involved, but come on! Would God have created any of us by accident? I think not. Therefore, below are my favorite personal development books to help you with confidence, following your passion, and recognizing your purpose in life.

Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends on It: Remember how I told you that you think your unworthy, bad, and lame? This book touches on all those things and gives you practical ways to learn to love yourself.

The Six Pillars of Self Esteem: How do we gain true self-esteem? The author gives us the answer in this book, with powerful exercises for increasing personal awareness and effectiveness.

The War of Art: What keeps you from doing what you really want to do? This book identifies the problems we face in pursuing creative endeavors, and how to achieve the greatest success.

The Powers of the Mind And Personal Development

Next, let’s face it. We’re all freaking amazing. Therefore, what holds us back? Our brain! Our brain is constantly telling us how worthless and lame we are. Therefore, these books are all dedicated to better understanding how our brains are responsible for this nonsense, and HOW to fix that!

You are the Placebo: This book is riveting. It literally changed how I saw the world. You’ve all heard of the placebo effect, right? So, how can we use what we know about that to hack our lives for better health and abundance. This book tells us exactly that.

The Power of Your Subconscious Mind: This book from Joseph Murphy was my introduction to the subconscious mind and how it controls everything we do. In my blog about using hypnosis to celebrate your life, we talk about how you can reprogram your subconscious mind to ease anxiety or lose weight. And in this book he goes into depth about why and how that works.

You are the Most Valuable Investment you will ever Make.

Spiritual Books For Personal Development

Lastly, are you ready to take your life to the next level? When I first got into personal development and the laws of the universe, I wasn’t interested in the below books. That’s because I was only interested in how to be more successful and make more money. Can you relate?

However, as you progress down the rabbit hole, you start to realize there’s so much more to know and learn. You get curious about why we’re all here. You ask more questions and then it starts to get interesting. Therefore, in the below two sections, I provide books for personal development that are more spiritual or new-agey. (Is that a word?) They’re really only for the people who really want to expand their thinking and have an open mind.

Conversations with God: This is one of my all time favorite personal development books. It was one of the most transformational books I have ever read. It was like someone was writing about the world and God as I had already known it, but never been taught. Don’t think this is your typical book about God. It’s definitely mind-blowing.

Outwitting the Devil: Break out of the matrix with this book that is well before it’s time. It’s written by the same author of Think and Grow Rich, and it was the first book I ever read that encouraged me to question reality. It was once considered too controversial to publish, and applies to everything going on today!

New Age Books

The Law of One: This crazy amazing book is all about the principle that we are all one and that we are love and in light – the building blocks of the universe.

The Game of Life and How to Play It: I literally have this book on repeat on Audible. The author describes how life is just one big game and there’s an absolute way to play each and every move so you can get what you want in life. This is a serious game changer.

The Nature of Personal Reality: All I can say about this book is that it will bend your view of reality so far that you won’t be able to come back the same person you were when you picked it up. But then again, that’s pretty much all of these books LOL.
