Can Gratitude Change My Life?
Firstly, if you’re wondering if a daily gratitude practice can actually change your life, I’ll give you the short answer. YES. Even though the #grateful trend has seemed to lull, the truth is that gratitude is a game changer.
How a Daily Gratitude Practice Changed My Life
It wasn’t too long ago that I was suffering from deep dark postpartum depression. Additionally, I wasn’t happy with my new life as a new mom. I really felt like I wasn’t making it as a mom. It was impossible to console my colicky baby, I couldn’t breastfeed, and all the things. In other words, being a mom felt like a huge disaster.
It was during that time that I was introduced to a daily gratitude practice. Wondering how to start a daily gratitude practice? Start here! I actually heard about it on the Jenny McCarthy show! She was interviewing a woman named May McCarthy about a book she wrote called, The Gratitude Formula.
Therefore, I thought why not start a daily gratitude practice and see if it changes my life? Could a gratitude practice really help me to manifest miracles? What did I have to lose? I decided it was a win win.
So I started a daily gratitude practice. In my gratitude journal, I wrote down that I had an amazing relationship with my daughter. I said, “we loved to laugh and be together” and “I love being a mom!” (All things I was struggling with at the time.) Oh ya, and I had just started my party decorations business, A Touch of LA LLC, so I threw a line in there about making three sales per day in my Etsy Shop. Because if I was going to try to manifest a better relationship with my daughter, I might as well figure out how to manifest money too, amiright?
What Happened After Writing in My Gratitude Journal?
As a result of my journaling, fast forward just a couple of months, and my relationship with my daughter had done a complete 180. My sadness and depression were gone. I felt like a new person! Additionally, fast forward just a few years, and I now have a thriving business that I love. Three sales per day is no longer a miracle in my life….it’s just an everyday occurrence!
You see, that’s the power of a gratitude journal and being consistent on a daily gratitude practice. When you train your brain to look for the good that is already in your life, it sets out to go searching for just that. It’s only a matter of time before it finds it.
Gratitude and Law of Attraction
Most people think that the law of attraction is “working against them”. But here’s the thing, the law of attraction is like gravity. It’s not good or bad. It just is. The law of attraction is always working, it just might not be working to bring you what you actually want in life. The law of attraction, which I break down in my very first Podcast on The Celebration Effect, is just pulling like energy together.
Therefore, if your energy is more focused on negativity, the things you don’t want in life, or on the past, then what are you drawing toward you? By staying in a state of gratitude, you constantly draw more of that into your life.
A gratitude practice makes you a creator in your life
A gratitude journal helps you focus on what you DO want, instead of what you DON’T want. What happens at night when you lay your head down on your pillow? You tend to think of everything that went wrong that day, amiright?! That’s our natural tendency. And by doing so, we start creating a new future from the past. We live in those past moments. But we forget that when focus on those moments, the law of attraction is still at play, and we create a new future from those thoughts.
And that’s How a Daily Gratitude Practice Changed My Life. It retrained my brain to focus on the good. Every time you sit down with your daily gratitude journal, you create a new energy. You write things down that you are excited about manifesting into your life. More importantly, you focus on a new future.
Think about this in comparison to watching the news. When you sit down to watch the news, it tells you everything you need to be scared about, right? “Find out what you’re eating that could be killing you…next at 10!” Um, no thank you! How about I take out my gratitude journal instead, ands on what I DO want to create in my life? What new habits can I create that will help me live? Where can I put my focus that would make today a more productive and fun day?
